An Artist Named Cake

Monday, December 8th, 2008

I promised a while back to focus my attention a little more to the ladies of the street art scene and I can safely say I have been slacking and I’ve probably disappointed all of you. Well I hope to renew a little faith in you guys by documenting a fantastic artist that is known simply as Cake.

Cake works mostly with posters and wheatpaste with brightly coloured drawings consisting mainly of women. The pieces are inspiring and have a certain ‘comic book character’ look towards them. Especially the piece above which could have come straight out of a graphic novel. The single lines on the coloured background really show that street art can be simple - money needn’t be spent on a 32 colour range of spray paints.

The Tunnel Project

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

We’ve all heard of huge sticker combos but street artist BayTruthSeeker has put together a huge paste-up combo in a Californian tunnel. The Tunnel Project started out on flickr where he asked people to send him their posters to paste up in the tunnel. Artists which were included in the event were Omino, Sano, Jeepers, Bear bear art attack, Biafra, Funky Red Dog, New Colony, Bustart, 3ms, nano, Bonus Saves, Proper tea and erase. Some of you forum regulars might notice some of those names there.

Picture of the finished tunnel are below and it’s great to see posters up in one location from all around the world.

The Beloved USPS Sticker

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

The USPS (United States Postal Service) sticker has been used by hundreds of street artists as an effective way to get up. It has now become an icon of street sticker artists, much like the ‘Hello My Name Is’ stickers. Any urban US city is now filled with these little artworks - whilst USPS probably isn’t happy that their stickers are being used for something other than directed, they must be pleased with their logo displayed everywhere!

Human, an American street artist and highly active forum member, has impressed us with a great paste up and effective use of environment. As pictured below, Human has put together a much larger ‘USPS sticker’ paste up.

Flickr of the Week #18

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

This weeks FOTW winner has some very weird characters which look awesome on the street. Rallito X seems to reside in Spain and has work up in Barcelona. A lot of his work is quite crude and consists of a lot of fallic images (god knows what goes on in his head, then again, maybe he’s not a guy).

Anyway, he deserves flickr of the week, if you check his flickr out you’ll see what I mean. Rallito’s work seems to consist mainly of wheatpastes which looks great for his creepy, fallic monsters.

Disaster Strikes

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Little is known of Disaster Strikes except their work is extremely detailed and fantastic to see - even if it is through a computer screen I can only imagine what it must look like in person.

Disaster Strikes has some new halloween inspired pieces fresh up today:

Working with a variety of mediums, Disaster’s forte seems to lie with wheatpastes.
