Urban Shrines of Sztuka Fabryka

Growing up on the countryside an ancient old community of small farmers became replaced by glossy villas  folk art and culture [chapels - shrines - …] in the name of devotion disappeared along with the little farms - the trees - our urban shrines are a homage to the culture and the beauty of the past yet combined with influences and ideas we do get today.

Leafman?

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Gorm has put together a brilliant street installation which is incredibly imaginative. The piece looks like a snowman but isn’t constructed of snow at all, a closer look and you’ll see its made of leaves, chicken wire and a carrot. A great addition to autumn.

D*Face Makes History

D*Face has set up some fantastic street installations in London. The brilliance of the pieces is that they look like they should be there. The stone used looks exactly like London’s buildings complete with grime.

Junkyprojects

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Junky is an Australian artist taking a completely different idea of ‘environmentally friendly’. Junky creates crazy creatures from ‘the debris of society’. He then resurrects them onto telephone poles for passers by (and us) to appreciate.

Junky’s work is imaginative and some may see religious ideology in there - with the whole resurrection thing, but also the shape the creatures are placed in reminds me of the crucifixion of Jesus. This unique take on household trash breathes fresh air into the ’save the environment, recycle’ idea that we are constantly preached.

Unfortunately his work has just remained in Australia but he states ’soon global invasion will be complete’. Fingers crossed for work outside of his native Australia.
