JR in London

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

JR hasn’t had enough of defacing London’s buildings despite hitting up the Tate Modern earlier this year. His work is HUGE! London street art photographer, Romanywg, was on the scene again getting some beautiful images of the work.

Thanks to Romanywg for letting us use the pics.

Street Art Photographers

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Probably as important to the street art scene as the artists themselves, the people who photograph the art are responsible for spreading the art and maximising publicity for both the piece of work and the artist. Whether the flick was taken by the artist themself, a passer by or one of growing number of photographers specialising in graffiti they all help to boost exposure (no pun intended).

One photographer that has impressed is Jeremy Gibbs a.k.a Romanywg. Romanywg has over 3400 pictures in his flickr and photographed work from a huge range of artists big and small. As a very well known street art photographer he has moved on from just taking work on the street - he has found the door to many galleries and exhibitions.

Not all photographers can be as big as Romanywg but sheila_blige is incredibly proactive and taking the street art world by storm. Taking a mass of photo’s from shila_blige’s home town of Manchester there is no trouble to find good art.

HowAboutNo! is a London based artist. You may have heard his name before mentioned on the site as he was one of the tour guides taking people round East London to raise money for Cancer Sell. Howaboutno’s photos are always powerful and educational.

Those mentioned in this article are just the tip of the iceberg. It seems perculiar that someone would want to take a picture of a wall but as street art is becoming more recognised by the public I don’t think we’ll see a slow down in the number of photographers specialising in street art.
