IYTI - Belfast

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

As far as free art goes the It’s Yours, Take It events are one of the highlights. There is a lot of controversy in the street art community about street art in galleries but free art is a way that I think both artists and ‘art fags’ can both be happy. The beauty of street art is that it is free for everyone and anyone to look at but this is taken away when street artists move into expensive gallery spaces.

The It’s Yours, Take It events have taken place around the globe including the US, Isreal, Canada, Germany and many more countries with many already planned for 2009. The most recent event was in Northern Ireland - Belfast.

We previewed the Belfast event way back in August and I’m pleased to see it was a huge success. Organised by Dogtired, all the submitted art was gone in minutes.

Below are a few pictures of the event and some very happy people:

It’s Yours Take it

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

One of the most interesting projects on the go right now. ‘It’s Yours, Take it’ originally spawned from the ‘Free Art Friday’ project in which artist would leave a piece of art on the street for someone to, hopefully, pick up, take home and cherish.

The IYTI project is much like ‘Free Art Friday’, but instead of one artist leaving art on their own, a bus load of artists leave a cornucopia of art in one place. ‘It’s Yours, Take it’ events have happened in many cities worldwide with work from artists across the globe.

We have covered Southsea IYTI event on Concrete Canvas back in July and Edwin looked forward to the Belfast event happening in November, as you can probably tell with all this coverage we think this event is awesome and we are asking people, on behalf of the organisers, to get involved.

So far events have taken place in eleven cities:
Tel Aviv, Israel
Southsea Hampshire, UK
Chicago, IL., US
Honolulu, HI, US
Tempe & Phoenix, AZ, US
Germany
Coffs Harbour, Australia
Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada
New Orleans,LA, US
Singapore
Boston, MA, US

Another five events are planned before the end of 2008. For more details on the event and how you can get involved check out the “It’s Yours, Take it” blog.
