Rabbit Eye Movement

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

His work looks like it has come straight out of a comic book but Rabbit Eye Movement has brilliantly transferred the comic book style characters to the big walls of many towns and cities. This Austrian artist’s work has incredible detail which I feel only a free hand artist could do. We often cover stencil and sticker artists on here but the free hand artist can produce spectacular results which is proven in REM’s work.

This image above was done in Vienna (REM’s home town) and is titled 9.11 Greatest Lie Ever Sold. As you can imagine, its very political and I think it brings together the events after the 9/11 tragedies very well. Obviously any work done criticising the US Government and in particular 9/11 is very controversial.

The image above was taken in a gallery, you can probably see the canvases on the wall. This is what REM said about it:

whole mess of the thing what gives us inspirations! the new and young generation wouldnt paint that way they paint when they wouldn’t have been brainfucked allready as young kids by the tv!
Media is an inportant thing in our world.
we are all mindcontroled! we just dont get it!

A great piece of work with a great message behind it.

No Name

No Name is another all round artist: stencil, wheatpaste, canvases, slaps, even t-shirts; this guy does it all. A lot of his work is inspired by beautiful woman and Trainspotting (a film about the Edinburgh drug scene).

His work has been posted write around the world in many forms but one of the most interesting locations I have seen from him, and probably any other artist, is this piece below in the mountains somewhere (Alps maybe?).

To see the vast range of No Name’s work please check out No Name’s flickr page.

Anthony Micallef

Anthony Micallef

Micallef is an artistic genius whose work has been described as “bubblegum pop”: a description which I thinks completely sums up this piece of art above. Anthony has even said “my work is like watching a Disney movie which slowly turns into violent pornography” - this can be clearly seen in his artwork on and off the street.

Micallef’s work has featured in galleries across the world from LA to Palestine. My only complaint I have is, I wish this guy did more street art and less canvas work.
