20 Artists to Watch in 2009! Part 4

Monday, December 29th, 2008

Welcome to the final part in our ‘20 Artists to Watch in 2009!’ series. If you missed it, check out Part 1 here, Part 2 here and Part 3 here. 2008 was a great year for street art, but why look at the past when there is such great list of raw talent looking to blossom in the future. With the help of the forum members, we have comprised a list of 20 artists which you should all be watching in 2009! We’ve included information and pictures of the final 5 artists below:

Riot68 - A great writer and 3d freehand specialist. Riot68 has been painting for a few years now and his style has developed so much. I can’t wait to see what Riot gets up to in 2009.

Deac4 – Deac was mentioned on the site a few months back. Since then I’ve been really interested in what he’s been doing. Deac and Riot68 often team up to produce some incredible collabs. Like Riot, Deac is a freehand artist and produced immense characters.

FarkFK - Fark is an awesome stencil artist. We’ve covered his work a couple of times this year and for good reason – its so clean! I can only imagine what Fark is planning next year and I am especially looking forward to it. As a member of Grafik Warfare and the newly established VST crew I’m sure he’ll be kept on his toes.

Hutch - Hutch is another great stencil artist but has been working with stickers more recently with his topical warning sticker ‘No Grenades’ (picture below). Hutch, as usual, should be breaking out with new ideas in 09.

This is Limbo a.k.a Know HopeKnow Hope has produced some beautifully delicate pieces this year. We’ve covered a few of them and they are always stunning. If Know Hope continues with the same wheatpasted slender characters in 2009 I will remain a huge fan.

That concludes the 20 Artists to Watch in 2009! series. I personally am looking forward to seeing new work from all the artists mentioned. Fingers crossed 2009 is as good as 2008, if not better!

20 Artists to Watch in 2009! Part 3

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

Welcome to Part 3 of the ‘20 Artists to Watch in 2009!’ series. If you missed it, check out Part 1 here and Part 2 here. 2008 was a great year for street art, but why look at the past when there is such great list of raw talent looking to blossom in the future. With the help of the forum members, we have comprised a list of 20 artists which you should all be watching in 2009! We’ve included information and pictures of 5 more artists below:

Part2ism - He’s a street art veteran but still produces high grade work. He’s latest project include the iconic ‘gasmask ladies’. Most recently he’s been doing paste up’s, Part2ism isn’t afraid of the spray can and is immensely talented at freehand work.

No Name - Filled with passion and drive, No Name is inspired to make a name for himself. His interesting art techniques and locations (e.g. the top of the Alps) have brought attention onto his artwork over 2008. No Name’s detailed stencils are brilliantly designed.

Seize – I’m not sure how Parisian street artist seize puts together his colourful pieces but they look incredible. They add colour to the darkest areas of an urban environment.

t.watBritish artist t.wat is always cooking up something, whether is a new poster for the streets or an awesome looking canvas. One of t.wats best attributes in his artwork is the placement – it always seems to be spot on. Check out the piece below. Placement is perfect.

Rallito X – Rallito and his crazy characters won himself Flickr of the Week earlier this year. His wheatpastes are extraordinary and most of characters seem to be sex obsessed but their still fine pieces of art.

Check out the final installment of our 20 Artists to Watch in 2009! series tomorrow!

20 Artists to Watch in 2009! Part 2

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

Welcome to Part 2 of the ‘20 Artists to Watch in 2009!’ series. If you missed it, check out part 1 here. 2008 was a great year for street art, but why look at the past when there is such great list of raw talent looking to blossom in the future. With the help of the forum members, we have comprised a list of 20 artists which you should all be watching in 2009! We’ve included information and pictures of 5 more artists below:

Bonus Saves - Partly responsible for the success of the ‘It’s Yours Take It’ iniative, BonusSaves is a great artist in his own right and clearly has a big heart if he gives it away for ‘It’s Yours Take It’. The piece below looks like it has been painted straight onto the wall but that’s not Bonus’ style. Bonus appears to me to love street art but he’s not a vandal – most of his work is left on the street for others to take. This is why Bonus is definitely someone to watch in 2009!

deuniti- Deuniti are an Italian artist collective. They seem to love their pixel art and the Nintendo family slots right into that category. Their art which doesn’t revolve around Mario is unobtrusive and pleasant – real street art which is a result of mainly stencil work and posters.

Starheadboy - Simple monochrome stickers with a hand drawn style are Starheadboys speciality. The simplicity is SHB’s present for the busy urban environments. His character designs are always interesting to gaze at.

Prefab77 - Based in Newcastle, UK, but previously lived in New York, the Prefab boys are inspired by not just the UK culture but their roots in America means they work BIG! Mainy paste up and poster artists, Prefab have to be watched in 2009 just to see how they can top 2008.

Nychos (a.k.a Rabbit Eye Movement) – Nychos is one of my favourite artists of 2008. His work is always big and freehand and bold and detailed… the list goes on. Nychos has attracted a lot of attention from Concrete Canvas over the last year and if you check out his flickr you’ll see why. This guy has huge skill with a paint can and the level of detail in each of his pieces is astounding.

Check back tomorrow for Part 3!

20 Artists to Watch in 2009! Part 1

Friday, December 26th, 2008

2008 was a great year for street art, but why look at the past when there is such great list of raw talent looking to blossom in the future. With the help of the forum members, we have comprised a list of 20 artists which you should all be watching in 2009! We’ve included information and pictures of each of the artists work below:

Funky Red Dog - I personally have been watching this artist for just a number of weeks. But in this short space of time Red Dog has hit the streets hard! His name is a clear indication of what to expect when you see his work on the street – dogs, and lots of them. Woof Woof! [Straws]

China Mike – Not strictly a street artist but his work is still fantastic and inspirational. “His painting style and use of colour is something you can’t ignore, and with his progression into live painting showcases and big murals, 2009 should be a great one for China Mike”. [Stephen Ball]

Pahnl - Pahnl seems to be always working on something new and inspirational. Small ’stick men’ are in their element when Pahnl is working with them and will often be seen hunting something. Last week Pahnl developed an impressive sticker stick man which morphs into a monster when the sun goes away!

elph - His writing style is complex and his can control can only be viewed with awe. There are few artists which can compete with elph’s complexity.

Disaster Strikes – DS’s work looks like someone has simply drawn a beautiful potrait on the wall. 2009 should be an awesome year for DS.

That concludes 20 Artists to watch in 2009! Part one. Come back tomorrow for Part two!
