The Tunnel Project

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

We’ve all heard of huge sticker combos but street artist BayTruthSeeker has put together a huge paste-up combo in a Californian tunnel. The Tunnel Project started out on flickr where he asked people to send him their posters to paste up in the tunnel. Artists which were included in the event were Omino, Sano, Jeepers, Bear bear art attack, Biafra, Funky Red Dog, New Colony, Bustart, 3ms, nano, Bonus Saves, Proper tea and erase. Some of you forum regulars might notice some of those names there.

Picture of the finished tunnel are below and it’s great to see posters up in one location from all around the world.

Moving Forests

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Here’s a fantastic street art installation project. Raising some awareness about lack of green spaces in Urban environments.

Here’s what the guys behind the Moving Forest project said about their idea:

The Moving Forest are 100 trees strapped into 100 shopping-carts lurking around in an urban environment blocking peoples way and forcing passers to act on them. According to NL’s Gen Yamamoto the idea comes from a story he heard as a child about a forest where the trees move at night so that people would loose there way and could never get out. This story has been haunting him ever since.
In his mind he could imagine people adopting a tree .e.g. homeless could start to take one on their journey through the city. The trees would pop up unexpectedly in small side streets or dark corners or be pushed over a big public square. They would group in smaller groups or be sparkled over the town.
Out of liability reasons for the Urban Play event 2 they are fenced in by concrete stones in a neat rectangle. Nevertheless, since they will be placed almost blocking the entire pedestrian area on Piet Heinkade in Amsterdam for a length of about 30 meters, they will surely create a surprising effect.
After the period of 6 weeks when the festival is over, the trees will be sold on to citizens and find a new home.

Big Geezers Show

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

On the Nov. 8th Los Angeles’ Scion Gallery host the Big Geezers Show curated by The London Police! I have to say that this was “The Best Show of The Year” here in Los Angeles. Now that is my opinion…but this may also be a bit influenced by the fact that this is my group of friends from all over Europe, most of which i hung out with in Amsterdam.

The description for the show on the Scion Space reads: “Scion Installation L.A. is pleased to present BIG GEEZERS, a would-be family of European and American artists who, over several years, have met, worked together and travelled the globe in search of adventure, hope and good times.”

But what really was going on was a crazy circus themed show, exhibiting the works of MORCKY TROUBLES (Italy), MISS RIEL (Iceland), GALO (Italy), WAYNE HORSE (Germany), PEZ (Spain), MINIVILA (Croatia), FLYING FORTRESS (Germany), ABNER PREIS (U.S.A.) and THE LONDON POLICE (U.K).

Most shows hold about half hour of entertainment tops. This show would never end! The had shooting booths, spinning wheels, prizes to be won, and a huge collaboration mural wall that was covered in ballons and revealed throughout by darts thrown by the crowd!

Great smoking patio (skin-up!!) and plenty of beer and wine! A great after party down in Venice! I drove home in daylight at 5:30 in the morning!!

For more party photos YoungWolff has a great collection he personally took!

The Beloved USPS Sticker

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

The USPS (United States Postal Service) sticker has been used by hundreds of street artists as an effective way to get up. It has now become an icon of street sticker artists, much like the ‘Hello My Name Is’ stickers. Any urban US city is now filled with these little artworks - whilst USPS probably isn’t happy that their stickers are being used for something other than directed, they must be pleased with their logo displayed everywhere!

Human, an American street artist and highly active forum member, has impressed us with a great paste up and effective use of environment. As pictured below, Human has put together a much larger ‘USPS sticker’ paste up.

Environmental Art

Saturday, November 15th, 2008

Yesterday we looked at the Un-plugged project which raised awareness of our energy usage. Today, we continue that environmental theme by looking at work by Mr. Scruff and Paul ‘Curtis’ Moose (best known for his reverse graffiti).

Below is a brilliant little video about the ‘Fish on a hillside’.
