Mark Jenkins is an American artist who is heavily involved in the street installation scene. This is a style of work we haven’t covered yet on Concrete Canvas. Street installations involve creating an object(s) and putting them into the street, they are often only meant to be used temporarily.

Jenkins is best known for his packing tape installations e.g. people. ‘Tape Men’ was Jenkins first street series, from 2003, which involved him creating life size people from packing tape. These people were installed in Rio de Janeiro and later Washington DC.

Mark’s ‘Embed’ series of installations is my personal favourite series he has created so far. It involves ‘Tape Men’ which have been installed in various positions in cities and towns.

One of the beauties of Mark’s installations is seeing the reactions from members of the public. The picture below captures a great expression from a passer-by.
